Energy and the Environment

Climate change, among other environmental concerns, is now widely agreed upon as one of the great urgent issues of our time. While many factors contribute to global warming, energy production and consumption stand out as the most substantial human drivers of the troubling environmental changes we are seeing. New innovations in cleaner energy and energy efficiency abound, but difficult realities remain—the world still demands power in quantities far beyond our current capacity for low-carbon energy production, and inefficient usage
  • Which renewable sources hold the most promise for sustainable, clean energy?
  • Which societal investments would have the most immediate positive environmental impact?
  • How much promise do fuel solutions such as ethanol, diesel, and hydrogen offer?
  • Can real environmental progress be made without significant lifestyle changes for all?

We cannot rely on one source of energy, instead we must develop technology to make all possible energy sources more efficient.

I agree. Energy is going to need to come from many different sources to meet the growing demand. But we also need to make sure that the ROI on these new sources is sound otherwise we'll be producing more energy at a loss, thus defeating the purpose.

An energy question.

If "American" energy companies are so concerned about us, why don't they release previously patented products capable of providing hydrogen, natural gas and electric vehicles?
